Movie Showdown: Anchorman vs. Step Brothers

Here you have hilarious movies staring Will Farrell. Let me start by saying that if you are looking for a good movie that you can sit back and have some great laughs, then either of these will work just fine. Did they win any Oscars? Not even close. But they are chalked full of funny lines and situations.

Movie Synopsis:

Anchorman – Set in the 1970’s in San Diego, Ron Burgundy is a flavorful TV anchor supported by his quirky cast of fellow anchors. Changes start to happen when the station hires a woman anchor and Ron and his buddies are skeptical to say the least.

Step Brothers – Brennan Huff (Will Farrell) and Dale Doback (John C Riley) are 40 years olds who live with their enabling parents. When the 2 parents meet and get married, the 2 are now meeting and vying for the top spot in the household.

Best Main Character:

This is kind of cheating because if it was one-on-one, I would go with Ron Burgundy. But even Ron can’t beat out Brennan and Dale. They play off each other so well and leave the audience laughing hysterically.

Best Supporting Character:

I think you have to give it to Paul Rudd for Brian Fontana. Great lines and the scene where he is dancing in his underwear trying to mess with Christina Applegate seals it for me.

Best Villain:

No contest on this one in my opinion. Vince Vaughn as Wes Mantooth is definitely better than Adam Scott’s character Dereck (Brennan’s brother). “Dorthy Mantooth is a saint!” Brilliant.

Best Female:

Unfortunately, Step brothers really didn’t have a too many females in the movie. Yes, Mary Steenburgen did a great job as the mother. But the winner is Christina Applegate for making Veronica Corningstone a very funny supporting love interest for Ron.

Best Quote:

Boy, this can go many ways because there are so many from each movie that are classic. But since I am writing this, I get to pick my favorite and that is “I’ve been called the songbird of my generation.” –Step Brothers.

Overall:

Let me just say that I consider these 2 movies neck and neck on my all time favorite funny movie list but only one can be the victor. So I have chosen Anchorman to win this Movie Showdown. There are just too many funny characters, lines, and situations. Step brothers is right up there but Brennan and Dale are really the only ones that make you laugh out loud. In Anchorman, the entire ensemble makes you laugh uncontrollably.

Winner:

Anchorman
